Reputable primary and secondary schools in Bodmin are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is the perfect job for anyone looking to gain experience before applying for teacher training.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and challenging behaviours. Your responsibilities will include:
Providing one-on-one support: Working closely with students who require additional assistance, offering tailored support to meet their individual needs. This may involve providing academic guidance, helping with classroom tasks, or assisting with personal care when necessary.
Implementing individualized plans: Collaborating with teachers and SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) to implement and adapt individual education plans (IEPs) for students. You will support the students in achieving their academic goals and help monitor their progress.
Promoting positive behaviour: Encouraging and modeling positive behaviour and reinforcing school policies and procedures. You will employ effective strategies to manage challenging behaviours and provide guidance on appropriate social interactions.
Facilitating inclusion: Creating an inclusive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and supported. You will work closely with teachers and other staff members to ensure all students can fully participate in classroom activities and school life.
Assisting with classroom management: Supporting teachers in maintaining an organized and conducive learning environment. You may help with setting up resources, managing equipment, and implementing strategies to enhance student engagement and focus.
Collaborating with colleagues: Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other teaching assistants to share insights and best practices. You will actively participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of effective intervention strategies.
Monitoring and reporting: Observing and documenting student progress and behaviours, providing regular feedback to teachers and SENCOs. You will maintain accurate records and contribute to the evaluation of intervention programs.
The successful candidate will have:
Relevant experience working with students with special educational needs and challenging behaviours is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
Graduation from a recognized institution is preferable.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
A commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for all students.
Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic educational environment.
To work with GSL Education as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you should:
Have the right to work in the UK.
Have at least 6 months of experience in an educational setting or the health care sector.
Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
