A leading name in the development and production of engineered materials are searching for a Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join their on-site team at their head office in Blackburn. The role is a full-time permanent position with a range of benefits including a competitive salary banding (£35,000 - £45,000 p/a) and annual bonus of up to 15%, flexible working hours and range of opportunities for training and development that will help further your career within Health and Safety.
Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager, your key responsibility will be to promote a positive culture of health and safety by providing solutions across the factory. Youll monitor and provide support and expertise to operational teams with respect to Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental issues, including statistics and suitable control measures and assist with and advise on all aspects of Health, Safety Environment controls across the site.
Other day to day responsibilities will include:
Contribute to, and drive the promotion and development of, a Safety Culture which secures effective implementation of policy, procedures, and responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety, Risk, Business Continuity and Environmental Policy and Processes.
Ensure the creation of the right framework and tools that will assist and develop the operational line management teams, and other functional teams, to manage a safe working environment for the wellbeing of employees, visitors and contractors.
Work closely with the EHS Manager to provide procedural frameworks, intervene and develop performance by giving advice and managing risk by measuring the potential exposures and trends.
Monitor the production and review of risk assessments that are in sufficient detail and proportionate to the risk.
Undertake regular Health and Safety inspections and audits (with safety representatives as necessary) and report findings.
Embed and support the maintenance of quality systems to retain ISO accreditation.
Review and implement the policies and procedures for Health and Safety and liaise with operations teams to ensure that appropriate monitoring is in place so that all personnel understand and are adequately trained to carry out their individual responsibilities in relation to health and safety at work.
Manage the arrangements for incident, accident and statutory inspections and enquiries, agreeing and implementing necessary changes.
Ensure that systems for identifying and recording Health and Safety training (including induction) operate properly
Produce monthly Health and Safety update including accident statistics and present findings to EHS Manager and wider operations team.
Continuous improvement in the management and reduction of lost time incidents and accident rates.
Support a Zero Accident mindset maintaining near miss reporting across sites.
To be considered for this role, youll need a demonstrable background in occupational Health & Safety within an engineering, manufacturing or production environment, working to high standards and levels of compliance. The manager is keen to hear from applicants with some form of Health and Safety Qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH etc.) or working towards one with a good level of hands-on experience.
Youll need strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at various levels of seniority, with excellent operational and relationship management abilities, and a real passion for driving change and improvement within a companys Health and Safety policies. A huge bonus for the business would be any experience auditing or working towards QMS standards such as ISO 14001, or if you have any qualification relating to delivering internal training to others.
