Finance business partners within a major programme or central team, provide a key role in supporting the delivery of business objectives. Providing planning & analysis, accounting, reporting and costing support to inform decision making and drive financial performance.
Whether providing financial input into a new business case or closing the monthly accounts, accuracy, timeliness, collaboration and understanding of performance essential.
Accountabilities
Review and analyse performance, producing reports and commentary for individual project managers and business unit management to enable monitoring of profitability against budget and recommend corrective action if required.
To provide costing information into project managers and finance review of proposals as required, to enable bids and contracts to be issued on a timely basis.
Preparation and analysis of month end accounts, ensuring accurate recognition of expenditure & revenue in accordance with UKAEA financial policy. Working closely with your business area and in collaboration with the broader finance team.
Support the business budgeting and forecast processes, build productive relationship with project managers and senior managers to enable the creation of robust budgets and periodic forecasts at project and at a consolidated business unit level.
To produce formal financial customer reports and liaise with auditors (UK and European) in order to facilitate payment for work performed.
Support the maintenance of a robust control environment, including responsibility for relevant balance sheet accounts appropriate to the business area, such as prepayments, accruals, Work in Progress, Income in Advance are fully reconciled with adequate supporting documentation available for audit purposes.
Liaise with the Capital Project Accountant over the reporting of capital expenditure and associated commentary to ensure clarity as to spending and reasons for variances
Support finance wide initiatives, such as testing of new reports & upgrades.Essential
At least part-qualified, qualified by experience, or working towards a qualification in a relevant professional accounting body;
Experience of working closely with business teams in a "business partner" capacity
To understand the principles of revenue recognition
To have an appreciation of multi-funding control requirements
Highly proficient in Excel and have experience of an ERP accounting system [Unit 4 (Agresso) would be an advantage]
Able to work on occasion to challenging timescales while still ensuring accuracy
