Polytec are looking for a Workshop Manager for our client based in Cambridge. You will take the lead on the electrical/electronic elements of bespoke design projects, providing advice on design for experimental equipment and manufacture, including materials and manufacturing methods.
Responsibilities:
* Manage the electronics workshop, providing a design and manufacturing service whilst ensuring financial sustainability
* Ensure the highest technical standards are maintained
* Manage and provide technical leadership and support to lab staff and customers
* Conduct experiments, measurement, prototyping and design and build ensuring value for money is provided
* Manage all aspects of health and safety in the workshop
* Negotiate with suppliers, monitoring expenditure against budget
Requirements:
* Experience of managing an electronics workshop
* Hands-on experience in the use and maintenance of technical workshop manufacturing equipment
* Proven experience of implementing health and safety in a research environment
* Degree / Masters level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent practical experience
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written across all levels
* Advanced software skills particularly SolidWorks / LabView
* Ability to write technical / business cases for internal committees, research applications and other projects
* Good project management skills
* Ability to understand the interactions between the mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, electronics and software disciplines in the design of complex bespoke machines
