Embedded Systems Engineer required to join global leader in the off-highway vehicle sector.
The successful candidate will join a highly focused and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical/electronic engineering across the business.
The role is within the Group Electrics and Compliance Wheeled Loading Shovel team which has responsibility to ensure that all new product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.
Your Responsibilities:
General Duties:
Translate the voice of the customer (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
Concept, prototyping and development of Simulink model-based applications across a wide variety of machine functions.
Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas
Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet).
Experience in the model-based software rapid prototyping and productionisation.
Work in-line with industry standard development techniques i.e. V Model and software development processes
Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates
Support of cause-and-effect analysis risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.
Qualifications and Experience:
Strong desire to learn from working on differing system architectures and coding techniques.
Familiar with different requirements capturing tools ie IBM DOORS.
Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230
Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety)
Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques White/Grey/Black box testing
A good understanding of design verification processes (DVPSOR).
Essential:
At least 3 years experience in the C programming language.
At least 2 years experience in Matlab/Simulink development for embedded
Able to convert a list of desirables, into clear concise testable statements (functional requirements)
Confident in use of software modelling tools & software
Sound base knowledge of electronic and software development
Sound base knowledge of low-level firmware integration i.e. bootloader through to application layer and parameter configuration
Familiar with CAN bus protocols or vehicle communication networks
Happy to use different types of lab equipment to monitor system behaviour i.e. CAN, frequencies, PWM and basic operation
Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development
Experience in the use of black box testing techniques
Experience of validation and verification activities
Experience taking electronic systems from concept through to delivery.
Excellent communication and IT skills
Desired:
7 years experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development
Qualified to Degree/Masters level in an electronic/software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
Able to co-ordinate / manage Project delivery incl. budget control
Proficient in leading the software lifecycle management:
Requirements capture (e.g. DOORs)
Version control systems.
Software development management tools such as JIRA
Code reviews
Managing adherence to quality systems and processes.
Able to create internal policies and procedures, and train others in adherence to quality systems and processes.
Experience in use of FuSa and Cyber software development techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434)
Research and procure team training, plus software tools required
