A significant opportunity to own a fascinating piece of local history. The Shieling, as it is now known, is an attractive stone-built detached bungalow which incorporates the former Station Rooms at Chollerton, near Hexham. It also includes the south-end of the original platform, complete with the original goods shed. It occupies a stunning position and captures breath-taking surrounding views. This unique sale includes a variety of interesting related artefacts; including the former Station Master's hat, whistle and ticket punch, the original ticket office station clock and a number of black and white photographs which were taken when the station was in operation.
The Accommodation
The light, spacious and versatile accommodation would benefit from modernisation, however should appeal to a variety of buyers and offers undoubted scope to extend or reconfigure, if desired. Externally is a sweeping driveway leading to ample space for vehicle parking and an adjoining garage. In addition are attractive lawned gardens with a variety of established plantings. The location is well placed for neighbouring amenities and viewings are highly recommended - there is no forward chain.
Brief History:
Having opened on 1st December 1859, the 42-mile Hexham to Riccarton Border Counties Railway line finally closed to passengers on 15th October 1956, however, remained open to goods traffic until 1st September 1958. As a result, Chollerton Station was then also closed, yet many of the buildings are now in residential use. The Shieling, as it is now known, incorporates the original Chollerton Station Rooms and includes the south-end of the original platform, complete with the original goods shed. The Station is featured in the 1986 documentary 'Slow Train to Riccarton', which focused on the very last passenger journey on the Border Counties Railway Line.
