Were currently supporting Hertfordshire Constabulary with their recruitment of Police Call Handlers to join the team at Hertfordshire Police HQ in Welwyn Garden City.

The Role

You will work right at the very heart of the organisation in the Force Communications Room taking emergency and non-emergency calls, directing resources across the County where needed.

No matter what type of call that comes in, your compassion, patience and professionalism must remain and that means thinking on your feet whilst providing reassurance and obtaining the relevant information to enable the correct deployment of appropriate police responses as necessary.

This role is varied with no working day the same! As calls can come through at any time, you'll be placed on a shift pattern that covers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As one of the team, youll receive extensive training and on-the-job support to prepare you for the challenging variety of calls and roles ahead.

What will I need?

You will need excellent communication and listening skills with an empathetic ear to be able to communicate clearly over the telephone or the Airwave radio.

You must be able to multi-task and effectively prioritise, whilst paying close attention to detail. You will be computer literate with good typing skills and a high level of accuracy.

Hertfordshire Police are looking for individuals who can bring with them a great work ethic, who can remain motivated and engaged throughout their working day or night. You will be dealing with confidential and/or restricted matters daily so it's vitally important that when a call comes in, you will be consistent with obtaining, analysing, evaluating, and recording the information accurately and efficiently.

Any previous experience working in a customer service role or call handling environment would be desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

Job title: Police Call Handler

Hours: Part-Time and Full-Time opportunities available - Shifts on a rota working across 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

Starting salary: Starting salary (including shift) of £32,772 per annum (pa), then after 6 months £33,915pa, after 12 months £36,996pa and after 24 months £39,036pa. If successful with a part-time position the salary will be pro rata.
