As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for influencing vessel design, optimising production processes, methods, facilities, equipment and tooling to drive improvement to achieve and exceed performance in safety, quality and cost targets. In return, this role will give you the opportunity to collaborate and integrate with Design Engineering, Detail Planning and Quality with Operations to make Naval Ships a more efficient and professional organisation to achieve existing and future contracts.
Manufacturing Engineers have a diverse role in designing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining manufacturing systems and processes, whilst ensuring product quality meets the customer requirements.
At the beginning of a product's life cycle, Manufacturing Engineers play a vital role in the design for manufacture process working alongside Design Engineers to achieve the most efficient and cost effective design that can be manufactured to the highest quality possible. Tasks include reviewing the design, materials and build processes to be used whilst considering Design for Life requirements and ensuring robust design verification and validation activities are scheduled and completed successfully. During the production phase of a product's life cycle, Manufacturing Engineers work in conjunction with the production teams to resolve issues during manufacture, and to improve manufacturing processes, for example designing a new tool or refining a build process. They also review non-conformances to determine root cause and implement robust corrective actions.

Understanding and Influencing Product Design to define optimised products to meet operational capabilities.
Creating methods and robust instructions for a highly skilled operations team to deliver world class products that are verifiable and repeatable.
Defining Facilities, Equipment, Tooling and processes to support achieving and improving quality, cost and schedule requirements and ensuring that Safety is at the forefront.
Supporting Production Teams and coordinating with External Suppliers, Research & Technology Test & Commissioning, Engineering, Quality, Safety and IM&T to achieve standards and to continuously improve.
Creating Manufacturing Engineering processes in collaboration with Maritime, other BAE Systems Business Units and Chief Technology Office (CTO) to embed the Manufacturing Engineering approach and Operational Excellence.
Responsible for converting the Engineering Design intent (drawings, standards etc.) into Manufacturing Engineering data for use within Operations while meeting safety and quality requirements. Applying Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
Responsible for the defining and execution of emergent work affecting ship manufacture, fabrication or construction.
Provide sub-discipline support to local and business wide improvement initiatives. (eg. visual management, conditional management, SQCDP etc.)
Responsible for the generation of Operations data utilising the toolsets within their area.
Responsible for the correct and efficient use of lean tools and techniques (A3's, 5S, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, process mapping, 6 Sigma, etc.)
Supporting and solving problems raised by teams using a variety of improvement tools and techniques.
Developing Manufacturing Instructions to improve shop floor processes.
Design of work stations to improve operator efficiency by optimising their working environment.

Entry Requirements
As a minimum requirement you'll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor's or Master's degree. Engineering degrees with elements of manufacturing will be accepted.
Examples include - Production Engineering Management, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or closely related. Desirable candidates will have previous experience in manufacturing, production, product development environments. Ship Building experience is not essential.
