Job Summary:
The Mechanic will support the clients operational tasks by inspecting, repairing, and servicing a wide range of vehicles, small plant, and agricultural equipment. The role involves conducting MOT tests for class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles, performing taxi tests, and attending breakdowns for immediate repairs or recovery. Flexibility, knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, and a 'systems thinking' approach are essential to meet the diverse needs of the service.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance:Inspect, repair, and service the clients vehicles, small plant, and agricultural equipment, ensuring compliance with standards.
Conduct MOT tests and retests for class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles.
Perform taxi tests as per client standards.
Breakdown Response:Navigate within Bromsgrove and Redditch districts to attend breakdowns and undertake necessary repairs or facilitate vehicle recovery.
Ensure knowledge and adherence to Health and Safety procedures during breakdown responses.
Work Arrangements:Work flexibly on a split shift arrangement if required to meet service needs.
Cover periods of leave, sickness, and bank holidays within workshops.
Customer Interaction and Training:Investigate and address customer enquiries promptly, providing excellent customer-focused service.
Train staff in minor repairs and basic maintenance of plant and machinery, ensuring work is performed to required standards.
General Tasks:Ensure availability of correct equipment, plant, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job.
Engage in reflection sessions with the team, complete paperwork, and update computer systems.
Understand customer demand and measures, provide customer-focused service, and resolve team issues.
Support compliance with Health & Safety legislation and council procedures.

Person Specification:
* Knowledge and Experience:Relevant experience in repairing and maintaining vehicles and large goods vehicles.
Experience in MIG welding, gas welding, and diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Understanding of Ministry of Transport Vehicle Inspectorate Standards and related regulations.
* Qualifications and Professional Memberships:Current full driving licence and LGV Category C.
Ministry of Transport approved vehicle testers certificate for classes 4, 5, and 7 vehicles.
CITB Plant Operators Certificates and relevant City and Guilds qualifications.
* Job-Specific Skills, Behaviours, and Personal Attributes:Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and customer care.
Flexibility, reliability, and a 'can do' attitude in supporting service demands.
Ability to work in varied weather conditions and solve problems using a systems thinking approach.
