LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Location: Newcastle

Part-time positions 1 x 25 hour post and 3 x 28 hour posts (Term-time working - 37 weeks)
Salary: £21,850 £23,540 pro rata per annum depending on skills and experience
(subject to agreement)

1 x 25 hour post (actual salary £12,236 - £13,183 subject to agreement)
3 x 28 hour posts (actual salary £13,705 - £14,765 subject to agreement)

In November 2019 Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) became the first further education provider in England to achieve outstanding grades in every area of Ofsteds recently reformed Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

The inspection report praised all areas of the Colleges provision and acknowledged NSCGs positive, stimulating and safe learning environment, highly motivated staff, and learners exemplary behaviour and attitudes to learning. It also highlighted the fantastic partnerships the College has with industry.

The group is currently home to a population of over 6,000 full-time students and around 500 students on higher education programmes. We have over 4,000 part-time or adult learners and 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

This vacancy has arose due to a number of internal promotions and an increase in volume of students with SEND requirements. We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to take up this position. Flexibility regarding working hours can be negotiated where requested.

You will primarily be responsible for the care and education of students with disabilities or learning difficulties. Working under the direction of the Lead Support Tutor for additional learning support, specific duties include assisting students in their work; preparation of rooms, equipment and materials, tracking learner progress as well as general individual assistance which may include attending to their health, safety, physical and hygiene needs.

For the position, you will be qualified to at least Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE equivalent),

Relevant experience or qualifications in an education or caring capacity, particularly supporting students or young people with learning difficulties and/or other disabilities is also desirable. You will also have a good knowledge of safeguarding and equal opportunities. A level 2 note taking qualification or equivalent is desirable.

You will be a good communicator, enthusiastic and self-motivated with the ability to motivate others along with good organisational skills. A flexible approach to working hours will also be required to accommodate the needs of learners.
