This role is very much technically driven with basic project management. We are looking for candidates that have good appreciation of all engineering functions to allow them to apply common sense to a breadth of technologies.
This role is key as we now focus all technical aspects of the product through the Technical Product Managers, this is a rewarding role, allowing them to work closely with their peers and team members and will have a great deal of product ownership, from inception to production and beyond.
They don't need to be domain experts but need to be able to pull the resource together to make sure everything is considered and good balanced decisions are made.
We have found people with electronics knowledge tend to sit well in the team, the products are mainly electronics/software based, but an appreciation of mechanical principles is very useful.
Primary Role:
To be responsible for the engineering function for innovative and complex electro-mechanical medical devices.
To lead and participate in implementing new product development and improving existing products as necessary.
To coordinate and participate in the generation of all engineering documentation surrounding the product.
To coordinate the verification activities required for the product.
To identify and interface with suppliers for new component selection.
To work alongside regulatory, quality and production engineering functions.
The two best suited types in this role are engineers with knowledge/appreciation of Electronics and Software.
Currently all our technical product managers are electronics engineers that have stepped up, but there is no reason someone with a software background with an appreciation of electronics couldn't handle this.
The role suits a good Engineer that has a breadth of good engineering knowledge and knows what a good design is, and also how to ensure the product is designed for manufacture and reliability every bit as much as they love to just get the thing working in the first place.
Essential Skills
Must have good hands on design experience in their past/present, with at least a good appreciation of all three disciplines, mechanical, electronics and software, and preferably direct hands on design experience in either electronics or software.
Must have good experience of an engineering change process.
Must understand DFM, DFT and other 'right first time' design mentalities.
Must have demonstrable experience of low level project management, not only of a small multidisciplined team for R&D of product, but good experience of working alongside quality, production and operations and understanding the importance of those functions within the business.
Must have a demonstrable aptitude to using modern tools that aid in ALM.
Education
* Electronics/Software or related Engineering or Science degree.
Experience
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
* Experience of working in a quality/regulated systems environment.
