About
The title Senior Quantity Surveyor is often the glass ceiling in many Construction & Civils businesses but not this one.
Our client is an ambitious meritocracy with a strategic plan to double in size. Youll take ownership of the commercial management, estimating and administration of key contracts. Youll have been there and done it. Youre highly organised & instinctively know what stage your contracts are at and what is required of you. Youll have the experience & confidence to make key decisions and lead from the front.
About you
Its a strategic & hands on role where you will be part of the senior team that will help deliver the growth strategy for the business.
Reporting into the Managing Director, you will have a seat at the table when it comes to decision making and youll get long-term progression that can often be quite difficult to achieve in other businesses.
You will be involved in all stages from estimating & bids, through to completion of each project.
What youll need:
* HND/HNC or degree in either Quantity Surveying, Construction Engineering & Management, Civil Engineering or another construction related field
* Strong civils/utilities experience Quantity Surveying & Estimating
* Motivated, driven and experience in working in a fast growing business
* A strong site presence
* An ability to manage your own diary so that you are where you need to be, when you need to be.
* Passionate about the job, business and the role.
* 5 + years experience.
Duties
Management of commercial and contractual aspects of current/new projects.
Attend pre-start meetings, liaise with relevant construction professionals, and ensure timely completion of agreed actions.
Compile and issue invitations to tender, analyse subcontractor quotations and make recommendations for placement of orders including issuing of same once approved.
Assess subcontractor payment applications and process payments.
Check project costs are correct and raise/resolve queries where necessary.
Produce and maintain up to date procurement schedules.
Visit site to measure and value works completed.
Measure, price, negotiate and agree budgets and costs for variations to project scope.
Carry out reconciliation of cost and value to date/forecast to keep the management team informed of project performance monthly.
Work closely with Head Office and site management staff to support the smooth running of the business, carrying out other duties as required.
Assist in the guidance and development of junior surveyors, with potential progression to be the Head of Department.
Other commercial matters as required.
Identify and procure tender packages suitable for the business and present to the Management Team.
Hold a broad knowledge of current market rates, being comfortable to tender for new opportunities.
