An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Force Crime Registrar Unit as an Assistant Crime Data Auditor, a role which seeks to improve our clients service to victims through ensuring accurate and ethical recording of incidents and crime.

This role will be working for Thames Valley Police at their headquarters in Kidlington and will be hybrid working.

Successful candidates will principally be responsible for auditing incident and crime records to identify the extent to which the force is complying with National Incident and Crime Recording Standards and other statutory requirements. A key part of the role will be to report audit findings, make recommendations for improvement, and support the Force Crime Data Auditor and Force Crime Registrar in driving improvement activity. Where necessary this may include advising on improvements to the systems and processes for recording incidents and crime.

In this role you will have full autonomy to amend crime recording and classification decisions on records where errors are found, overruling decisions previously made by others in the organisation. An ability to be able to make sound judgements and clearly rationalise and document decision-making therefore is crucial.

Recent and proven knowledge of the National Standard of Incident Recorded (NSIR) and of the National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) is essential to this role. You will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively and the personal credibility to influence at all levels. You will also be self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently as well as ensuring relevant technical knowledge is kept up-to-date.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Conduct audits in accordance with the Annual Audit Schedule to identify the extent to which the Force is demonstrating ethical & consistent crime and incident recording in compliance with the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS), the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), the National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR) and the Home Office Annual Data Requirement (ADR).
At the direction of the Force Crime Data Auditor (FCDA) undertake specialist audit of Designated Decision Makers (DDM) in specialist functions to ensure the DDM decisions are compliant with the HOCR.
Identify and notify the FCDA of any unethical crime recording practices that undermine the Force's statutory obligations, professional reputation, service to victims of crime and compliance with the Code of Ethics.
Report audit findings and make recommendation for improvement enabling assurance of a right first time approach is adopted to crime recording which fully meets the needs and legal rights of victims of crime and where necessary advise on improvements to the systems & processes for crime recording.
Monitor national best practice in relation to crime recording compliance auditing and the work of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) in identifying risk to crime data quality.
Support the wider responsibilities of the FCRU in response to surge demand and HMICFRS (or other) activity.ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to think objectively and demonstrate sound judgement and to be able to clearly and concisely document decision making.
Educated to a good standard or equivalent proven experience, including development and continuous improvement.
Strong problem solving, communication and relationship building skills with the personal credibility to influence at all levels.
Proven ability to be conscientious and thorough with meticulous attention to detail.
A willingness to undertake training relevant to the role; including any learning or assessment which may include Force or College of Policing accreditation.
Proven experience of risk identification and management relevant to victims of crime for urgent service recovery where audit reveals significant service delivery failure.
Up to date and in depth knowledge of NCRS, HOCR, NSIR and their application in operational crime investigation.
Recent and proven knowledge of the routes of crime recording and the systems & processes within the Force and ability to navigate the relevant Force IT systems.
