General Manager Grounds Maintenance & Soft Services West Sussex
Circa £55,000 pa plus benefits Negotiable
Candidate must have Senior Grounds Maintenance experience. Located within 25 mile radius of East Grinstead, with experience of overseeing Project/Contract Managers.
Experienced GM General Manager required for a Soft Services Company providing Ground Maintenance Communal Cleaning Disabled Living Adaptations Arb Maintenance Estate Management Waste Management Winterisation Horticulture Housing Association Estate Management. Main contracts are based around South-east England / Surrey / West Sussex
The role
The General Manager role is a new position and has been created to help drive the business into a period of new growth and opportunity. The General Manager will deliver against agreed KPIs, targets and objectives for the company and is responsible for building and maintaining a high performing management team. Responsibilities include managing two direct reports across the cleaning and adaptations departments and direct management of the Grounds Maintenance department including supervisors and grounds maintenance operatives.
You will have strong leadership, management and people skills that have been used extensively in senior management roles in a soft services multi-site environment.
You will be a relationship builder of the highest calibre, both with suppliers, customers and internal teams and will have proven negotiation, presentation and communication skills utilised at senior management levels. The General Manager will be expected to deputise for the CEO during periods of absence.

Manage P & L, agree budgets and report to the Directors on a monthly basis.
Develop and monitor key business metrics, evidencing results that are on par with or exceeding our competition.
Recruit staff who want to be part of our success story.
Identify staff development and training needs across the business to boost knowledge.
Manage annual appraisals for staff using SMART objectives.
Review, update, re-fresh company policy documentation as required.
Job Specification of the General Manager
Essential Skills
1. A minimum of five years experience in a similar role.
2. Experience in the provision of grounds maintenance and associated soft services.
3. A minimum of five years proven success in managing high performing contracts.
4. Ability to really motivate teams effectively across key strategic accounts.
5. Experience in delivering change within an SME environment.
6. Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and HR legislation.
7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
8. Proven ability and experience in successful bid writing and tender pitches.
9. Strong problem solving skills together with reasoned decision making.
10. Excellent people management and proven team building skills.
11. Ability to work productively and effectively and perform to tight timescales.
12. Vision to drive the business through a 1, 3 & 5 year plan.
Desirable Skills
1. Further management studies (e.g. Leadership and Management).
2. IOSH qualification.
3. Experience working within social housing sector.
4. Track record of overseeing small business growth.
5. Working knowledge of cleaning maintenance contracts.
6. Awareness of Aids & Adaptations provisions.
7. Experience of bulk waste collections [along with Ground Maintenance experience]
