We are now seeking a Commercial Manager to help shape this new role for us.

As Commercial Manager, you will be supporting the business to improve profitability through cost reduction and project efficiency, protecting the business through contract scrutiny and administration, and working with different departments to minimise exposure to the business throughout the project lifecycle.
You will also be accountable for the commercial performance of projects and will work with project managers to ensure variations and valuations are agreed upon and administered correctly. Striking the right balance between client relationships and protecting the interests of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Keep a close eye on the finances of each project, work with the project teams on all contractual matters and ensure that the financial position is controlled effectively.
Ensure the contractual and financial information on every project is well-maintained, accurate and up-to-date. This will include variations, completion certificates, contracts, meeting minutes etc.
You will require a good understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract to enable terms to be scrutinised and negotiated.
Although based in the Operations Department, you will work with the Sales, Estimators and Finance teams to provide expertise and protect the interests of the company.
Liaise with clients at all levels ensuring that you always represent the company in a professional manner. Able and willing to travel to projects on sites when required.
Value completed work and arrange valuations & payments. Negotiate variations and final accounts.
Report on cash flow, actual vs budget for each project.
Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
Board level reporting required on; project cashflows, profit recognition, retention releases, and profitability analysis.

Essential Skills
Excellent communicator with a strategic mindset
Relevant BSc degree or equivalent
Experience working within the construction industry with Tier 1 contractors
Extensive knowledge of construction contracts
Excellent attention to detail
Experience in call handling and customer-facing skills with sub-contractors, suppliers and clients
Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities
Advanced use of MS Office, Word, Excel, and the ability to learn ERP systems specific to the company
Able to demonstrate self-motivation to improve knowledge and skills through personal research and development
