Tudor House at 1 North Street, Denton Holme… is delightful Grade II listed property full of period character nestled right by the river in leafy Denton Holme, just a short walk from Carlisle City Centre.
This apartment has a large, bright, kingsized bedroom, a sitting room with a comfortable sofa bed ; a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with washing machine, shower and toilet.
The building is special, built originally by the Ferguson Brothers as the Temperance Coffee Tavern & Reading Room ~ for their fabric mill and dye works. Ferguson Mill closed in 1991, and the building has since been used for a variety of uses, including a child care centre and a swimming club clubhouse.
Tudor House is tall and octagonal with a high pyramid roof and timber framed dormer gables, it neatly turns the angle between Bridge Terrace and North Street. The building retains many attractive period features such as high ceilings, tall windows and original panelling, doors and architraves. The entrance foyer and stairs are also special with original bannisters illuminated by chandelier-style lights and huge gothic arched windows.
Upstairs, The Reading Room is lined with book-cases filled with books and art. It is rumored that Charles Dickens came and read aloud to mill workers here, however the building wasn’t completed 1882, 12 years after Charles Dickens’ death… so it does seem unlikely…
Tudor House is now a striking development which was recently converted into four quirky, art-and-light filled, fully furnished apartments, all of which are being run as short term lets.
On the ground floor, there are two apartments, both one bedroom; and on first floor a further two apartments, both one bedroom. The spaces vary in size, some are very spacious, and we can also provide sofa beds and/or folding beds to add more flexibility to your stay.
These apartments are warm, and filled with books, art and curios… these are comfortable, characterful nests, away from the noise and hustle bustle; yet conveniently close to the city centre.
The apartments are fully furnished with everything you would need for a short stay, including:
• Excellent fast wifi.
• Large flat screen TV’s with freeview and smart connectivity (log into your own Amazon or Netflix account, or surf YouTube…)

Our Commitment to Your Safety.
We advertise all our properties as being suitable only for guest's without mobility problems.
This apartment is on the first floor and there are further stairs to the bedroom.
It is not a suitable space for very small children or those with mobility problems or disabilities.
Should you have minor mobility issues, we recommend contacting us in advance of booking to talk through your requirements.
None of our properties are built to modern day building standards with disabled access in mind. Our stairs are often steep. Bedrooms may be 'inner' rooms within the building and escape routes might need occupants to move through other rooms, ie sitting rooms or down hallways to escape the premises.
Please do not book this apartment if you have mobility concerns or other disabilities which may hinder your immediate escape should a fire be detected.
Please Note:
In view of our commitment to fire safety, we do not allow smoking or vaping in any part of our premises - including bathrooms or beside open windows.
We also do not allow guests to bring or use their own ‘unauthorised’ equipment (eg. electric heaters, kettles, coffee percolators, electric fans, bbq's, patio heaters etc.) within any of our properties. If you have something you'd like to bring - please ask us first and we may be able to help.
Signs are hung at the entrance of each apartment, and also included in this advertising to remind you to be safe at all times.
Bins and recycling are stored through the back kitchen door to the rear of the premises. We ask that you please manage your waste responsibly.
We ask you not to burn candles, oil burners, or incense sticks within the property, or use and other appliance with an open flame.
In case of fire, please exit the building as quickly as possible leaving all personal items behind you. Call 999 and only attempt to extinguish the fire if it is safe to do so.
We recommended you assemble by the park to the east of the building on Nelson Street.
We don’t live at the property, however we are on hand to answer any queries or help. If you need us… Just call.
You will be given a pin code to access the front door and provided with the details to self check in. Keys will be in your apartment door from 3pm on the day of your arrival - please put them back in the door when you leave.
