We are working with a regionally based contractor, who operates a successful rail infrastructure division. Due to securing several new frameworks and project wins, they have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team, responsible for managing all commercial and contractual aspects of various rail projects. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will oversee schemes with budgets up to £5 million, encompassing a variety of projects such as bridge replacements, station renovations, and platform enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commercial Management: Take ownership of the commercial management of assigned projects, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and financial objectives.
2. Contractual Management: Manage all contractual aspects of projects, including the review, negotiation, and administration of contracts to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
3. Cost Management: Prepare accurate cost estimates, monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle, and identify cost-saving opportunities to maximize profitability.
4. Procurement: Coordinate procurement activities, including sourcing subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts to secure the best value for the company.
5. Variation Management: Assess and manage variations to contracts, ensuring proper documentation and negotiation to minimize disputes and maintain project profitability.
6. Stakeholder Management: Foster positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to promote collaboration and facilitate project success.
7. Reporting: Prepare regular reports on project financial performance, including cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance analysis, for review by senior management.
Requirements:
* A minimum of three years of experience in quantity surveying, ideally within the rail or civil engineering sector.
* Proficiency in commercial and contractual management principles, with a strong understanding of construction contracts and relevant legislation.
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant quantity surveying software.
* Relevant professional qualifications or membership of a recognized industry body (e.g., RICS) preferred
