CNC Machinist

A cutting-edge Aerospace & Defence organisation have an opportunity for a CNC Machinist to join their growing Operations team.
Responsibilities
* Establish and ensure department standards for safety, quality and quantity are met
* Ability to read engineering drawings and create CNC programs accordingly with close tolerances and be experienced in machining different types of materials.
* Set up manual and CNC equipment without supervision.
* Ability to work to Works Instructions, Specification and Route Cards.
* Designing jigs fixtures, tooling for efficient work holding.
* Determine methods and machining sequences of operations.
* Feed and run CNC machines and successfully complete batch production.
* Set all tools and offsets for efficient production.
* Change cutting tools and adjust machine feeds and speeds as needed.
* First- off dimensional checks on new programs.
* In-process controls using manual devices (gauges, micrometer).
* Work closely with Quality Engineering and support any PFMEA or fault diagnostics.
* Problem- aware, active handling of CNC machines.
Requirements:
* Time served apprenticeship / skilled turner / miller / general machinist.
* Knowledge of machining energetic materials would be beneficial but not essential.
* Professional handling of CNC machines.
* Lean manufacturing skills and removal of waste, 5S, knowledge or involvement on Kaizen workshops and Lean 6 Sigma training to improve product flow and reduce operational space.
* Ability to work and contribute in a small team but also able to work independently.
* To help provide functional requirements for equipment improvements.
* Must have a keen willingness to methodically improve, develop or modify processes
* A flexible approach and attitude to overtime that on occasions may be at short notice.
Qualifications and experience
* C&G/ONC/HNC qualification would be beneficial.
* Proven CNC machining (Turning and Milling).
* Experience in programming and setting up XYZ Proturn CNC Lathes with ProtoTRAK® SLX Control.
* Experience in programming and setting up HAAS 3/4 Axis CNC vertical machining centre with multi tool changer.
* Knowledge of Gcode, Mcode, Offsetts.
