We are seeking to appoint a highly experienced Special Educational Mental Health Teacher to join a well established Secondary school based in LS12, on a full time long term basis. We have recently established a great working relationship with this school and are looking for a confident, outgoing and resilient individual who is looking to take on a new, challenging role in supporting students with mental health needs.
As an SEMH Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support and guidance to students with SEMH needs, enabling them to overcome challenges and succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people through compassionate teaching, personalised interventions and collaborative partnership working. It is expected that you will plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that address the unique learning needs and abilities of students with SEMH needs, incorporating a variety of teaching strategies and resources. Establishing positive and trusting relationships with students is vital in this role in order to provide emotional support, encouragement and guidance to promote their wellbeing and academic progress. You will implement individualised behaviour management plans and interventions, working closely with the SENCO and other support staff to address challenging behaviours and develop coping strategies. Within this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including educational psychologists, social workers, and external agencies to create holistic support plans and ensure a coordinated approach to meeting students' SEMH needs. Monitoring and tracking students progress through regular assessment and evaluation will allow you to review your teaching and adapt the strategies/interventions in place as necessary to facilitate continued growth and development.
The School were taken over by Dixons Academy in 2018 and since have made great progress in ensuring the education provided to students is the highest quality allowing them to take steps to make development. They offer a differentiated timetable to allowed for a more focused and tailored learning experience to students who require additional support within school; this allows them to have 2 additional literacy and numeracy lessons. Onsite, they also have separate rooms that students can utilise should they need to; these include, The Wellbeing Room which offers a calm, quiet space as well as, The Learning Support Room that operates on an ad-hoc basis where students can drop in if feeling stressed or anxious.
The ideal candidate will:
* Have a strong understanding of SEMH-related issues and effective strategies for managing behavior, promoting well-being, and supporting positive mental health
* Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, parents, and external agencies
* Be committed to continuous professional development and a willingness to engage in training and learning opportunities related to SEMH provision
* Be a resilient, empathetic and have a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people
The successful candidate must have:
* UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE or SCITT, with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Specialism or significant experience in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, preferably within a school setting.
* An enhanced DBS that is registered to the update service
* Two suitable teaching references covering the past two years
* Right to work in the U.K
