Senior Team Officer, Youth Offending Service

Birmingham is a diverse city with areas of significant deprivation and as a result, although many children and young people achieve good outcomes, others face a range of challenges, particularly in terms of their wellbeing and staying safe. The dismantling of these challenges, to safeguard children, protect communities and offer diverse, trauma-informed relationship-based practice are at the forefront of Youth Offending Service practice and vision.

Birmingham Youth Offending Service are seeking to recruit an experienced Senior YOT Officer.
Ideal candidates will possess substantial YOT case management experience, have an advanced working knowledge of youth justice practice and experience of working with vulnerable children, young people and their families.
You will demonstrate a proactive approach to engaging and supporting children and young people who are subject to out of court disposals and statutory criminal court orders both within the community and custodial settings in accordance with local and National standards, legal contexts and expectations outlined by the Government, Youth Justice Board, Birmingham Childrens Trust and partner agencies. Your role will require a good knowledge of child development and law to supervise court orders, a high level of analytical skills to undertake comprehensive assessments and a dynamic approach to planning, sequencing and delivering interventions (group work and one to one) which address need and protect victims.
You will need to have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to make clear, evidence-based decisions with a good understanding of key legislation. You should be a reflective practitioner able to demonstrate an efficient approach to time and task management, possess key skills to produce high quality court reports in a timely manner and show high competency in representing the service within a variety of settings including Court, Panel meetings and Risk management forums. We are seeking a keen professional who works well with within a multi-agency setting to develop relationships with colleagues and share knowledge. As part of the Think Family model adopted within Birmingham you will work within a whole family approach as a lead professional to support wider family needs.

In addition to the above, as a senior position we are seeking leadership qualities which assist the management team in providing an effective service that meets the individual needs of young people and families to reduce and prevent further offending. Further, your senior skills will assist in developing specific areas of expertise and knowledge across the service in order to develop and improve practice, taking on a lead role within quality assurance, chairing reviews where appropriate and managing complex cases.
