Up for sale is my girlfriend’s 1996 Volkswagen Golf Automatic (affectionately called Gilbert).
We bought Gilbert back in November of last year when my girlfriend passed her test as a first car to build her confidence in. She’s now upgraded (downgraded in my opinion) to a newer car and Gilbert is up for sale.
Being a car enthusiast especially for older VW’s, I chose this particular car. It’s got MOT till december, the oil leak has been fixed (rocker cover gasket and a fresh service at the same time). New thermostat, coolant flange and seals fitted. Only 51k genuine miles backed with service history. Automatic gearbox is smooth as silk, car runs lovely. Has electric mirrors, windows and sunroof (no leaks).
The bad -
Being 27 years old it is starting to show wear and age in the interior but still clean, has the original rubber matts. The body work is really good for its age but does have some bumps and scratches (pictured) this was originally a london car. The sills may require attention in the future but held up fine for the last MOT. Front tyres have thread but are old, this was an MOT advisory.
Overall this a lovely example of a modern classic which do seem to be appreciating. A great automatic cruiser that could work well as a daily driver or entry classic.
Looking for £1650 ONO.
