The New Forest pub is 30 yards from the cottage so if you don't want to cater every day the option of bar or restaurant service is always available. Paultons Park and Lepe beach are a short drive away. Longdown Activity Farm (1.5Km as the crow flies), The New Forest Wildlife Centre (2.5Km) can be reached by car or an easy cycle.
Walk or cycle to the Drift Inn at Beaulieu Road Station (4.5Km as the crow flies). Lyndhurst is just 4Km up the road. The New Forest open top bus stops at the station during the summer months. You can tour the forest, getting on and off this bus and it will bring you home at the end of the day.
If you like golf, the New Forest Golf club allows non-members to pay and play, but beware, this is a forest course and you will find ponies and cows on the fairway. The club is a couple of miles up the road towards Lyndhurst. This base is a cyclist's dream ( There are plenty of opportunities to hire a bike if you,re coming from afar ). If you like the roads, just head up towards Lyndhurst or if it is off-road that takes your fancy then head into the forest in any direction from the house.
The New Forest became a national park in 2005 and was once a royal hunting ground for William the Conqueror. It covers an area of 566 square kilometers and is made up of vast tracts of unspoilt woodland, heathland and river valleys. Today deer, ponies and cattle continue to roam free in its ancient heaths and woodland.
Clear rivers and shady groves provide tranquility and a car-free haven for walking, cycling and horse riding. Take a stroll around the quaint traditional villages of Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Burley and Lyndhurst, explore the dusty antique shops or enjoy a pint of locally brewed cider or beer in one of our many friendly pubs.
