Classroom support are excited to be working with a school in Chatham who are looking to recruit a number of Learning Support Assistants to start both this side of Easter, supporting children with SEMH needs.

The school supports students aged 11-16 with SEMH. The environment can be very challenging in terms of behaviour however the senior leadership team look to promote staff members that work hard and make a lasting positive impact on their students. There are huge opportunities to progress. Starting on a supply basis and going permanent between 12 and 14 weeks into the contract.

The positions will start on a temporary basis with the option of going permanent after a number of weeks working with the academy through our Classroom Support agency.

It is essential that you have some of the below experience:

Experience of supporting children/young adults with challenging behaviour

A keen understanding of being able to create bonds with students that have had challenging backgrounds and to be able to quickly build trust

Worked within a Pupil Referral unit, SEMH school, young offenders institude or children's home previously is advantageous.

Experience mentoring children and young adults within SEN schools or candidates with a mental health support/young offenders background would be strong candidates for the roles.

Any experience of restraint training is highly advantageous but not necessary as the school use this as a last resort in all cases

Solid knowledge and experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

Any understanding of supporting children within the foster system is also advantageous or looked after children.

The rate of pay is £90+ per day for the right candidates. Temp to perm option after 12 academic weeks.

You will need a DBS on the update service or be willing to pay £52.20 for a new DBS if you do not have one for us to be able to place you in a school.
