Job Outline:
A leading developer of fiberoptic technologies is now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Engineering Team.
Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, applications are welcomed from an Engineer who is in the early stages of their career and looking to progress in Mechanical Design.
You will be working on the design of components to micron level tolerances and will be involved in a good level of documentation database administration and will partake in new product design activities to a high standard too.
You will participate in the design and development process of new products creating necessary component and assembly drawings and BOMs.
Working with the engineering team you will support the development of prototypes.
You will design jigs and fixtures for manufacturing processes; and develop setups and prove prototypes
Provide initial product qualification against appropriate standards and quality procedures
Once designs are proven, you will support product transfer to production and help with solving initial production issues.
Qualifications:
It is expected that the successful applicant will hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Design / Engineering, and ideally 2 years experience in mechanical design or product development.
Experience:
Ideally you will have at least 2 years experience in mechanical design and new product development, using 3D CAD packages such as CREO or similar.
A working knowledge of precision component design to micron level tolerances, design for high tolerance machining, plastic moulding, die-casting is an advantage.
A sound working knowledge of material properties and stress analysis is essential.
You should also have experience identifying and working with tooling and component suppliers to source components necessary to meet requirements of the design.
Also essential for this role, is demonstrated team work skills in a small company environment.
