About the Role Working as part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) business we're looking for a Support Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. DST forms a critical part of Babcock's Marine organisation. Working across a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, our 1,500 strong team operate from a number of sites across the UK and internationally ensuring our global customer portfolio is always supported.
Babcock Mission Systems provides engineering support to a number of key customers - developing, supplying, installing and commissioning complex information and communication systems and providing through-life in-service support.
As a Support Engineer you'll provide field and test engineering expertise to existing customer contracts, as well as business development opportunities.
You'll be involved with:
Installation and commissioning of Electronic systems (Including communications systems - RF / Radar or similar Naval Comms)
System upgrades on IT systems and IT Networks
Technical fault finding of system / configuration issues on IT and Network systems
Conducting test, evaluation and acceptance activities including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Installation Inspection (II) and System Acceptance Tests
Acting as trials test director for assigned projects
Undertaking of routine scheduled maintenance tasks for assigned projects
Production of test specifications and procedures to support trials and acceptance activities for the assigned projects
Analysis and rectification of system defects whilst maintaining an awareness of design change, updating plans and schedules, monitoring and analysing progress and serving specific task requirements
What do I need to do the role?
You'll be Degree qualified in an Electrical / Electronic Engineering or an IT / Network discipline, or you will have an HNC / HND in IT / Computer Engineering or Electronics with suitable experience in IT / Network engineering. Experience in configuration and security lockdown of Windows 10 Operating Systems is essential for this role.
You'll need to have in-depth knowledge and experience of deploying computer systems and networks along with the installation, commissioning and setting to work of complex communications / network systems and preparation for Acceptance and Trials presentation of these systems.
We would also like you to have experience of the following:
Ability to pick-up and use new development tools
IT Network skills including configuration of various network devices
Configuration of Network Routers, Firewalls and Switches
Experience of Radio Frequency techniques and practices
What else do I need to know?
SC clearance is required for this role.
