Banksman is responsible for the surface activities carried out in the Headframe, Bank and Foreshaft and for all people and materials entering the shaft. To work in accordance with this role profile, within the restrictions as appointed by the mine manager and carry out tasks which will include but not be limited to:
Co-operate with all other work stream and operational team members to co-ordinate work efforts and ensure activities are sequenced correctly and carried out safely
Ensure personnel are authorised to enter the Bank, Foreshaft and that they wear the correct PPE
Candidates Please note : You will need to pass a safety critical medical for this position and there may be other restrictions due to Health and Safety
The banksman will conduct random searches of personnel for contraband and record numbers searched and any findings banksman has the authority to deny access to unauthorised personnel, anyone deemed to be medically unfit for work, in breach of contraband or could be a risk to the health and safety of the shaft team referring them to the shaft Superintendent
Record every persons access and egress using the Tag in & Tag out Tally Board system, and record every person in the official logbook
Ensure compliance with codes and rules, company instructions, RAMS and working instructions with regards to health and safety
Has the authority to deny access to personnel if they are not authorised, medically unfit for work, in breach of contraband or could be a risk to the health and safety of the shaft team, they will be referred to the shaft Superintendent
The Banksman is responsible for transport of personnel in to the foreshaft working level. The Banksman is responsible for operating the shaft signaling system and communication between the bank, Winder Driver and banksman No 2 or Dump-man in the foreshaft and Onsetter on the MTS.
The Banksman is responsible for traffic management on the Bank and Foreshaft including segregation / barriers and traffic marshalling, Slinging and Rigging activates, safe storage of lifting equipment, secure loads and control shaft plant / equipment / services/ cables / ground support, and materials through the shaft to the SBR
Immediately rectify or stop any operation or work activity that does not comply with or is not being operated in accordance with, the applicable safe operating procedure
Experience of working on men and material transport systems, preferably in a mining, tunneling or heavy industry environment.
Experience of banksman, slinging and signaling in an industrial environment
Experience of working under a regulated safety structure with a proactive approach to workplace health and safety
Relevant hazardous area experience is desirable.
Please note these roles are currently on the following shift pattern with an impending change from the 1st May. Currently it is 7 days on 3 days off, 7 nights on 4 off.
From the 1st May, the pattern will operate on the following rotation:
- 9-day shifts - 07:00 to 16:30 9.5 hours
- 2 off must be taken as rest days to comply with UK legislation (Working Time Directive)
- 9 evening shifts - 15:00 to 00:30 9.5 hours
- 2 off must be taken as rest days to comply with UK legislation (Working Time Directive)
- 9-night shifts - 23:00 to 08:30 9.5 hours
- 14 off (including 3 rostered holidays)
