Arch Resourcing are currently recruiting for a Children's Residential Deputy Manager for an all boys theraputic home in Guildford.

Purpose of post:

To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for young people placed in the home To give support to other staff in the home To follow the daily routine in the homeKey areas:

Work with young people Teamwork Liaise with parents and/or carers and other professionalsDuties and responsibilities:

To ensure that a caring and stimulating environment is provided for the young people that takes into account individual developmental needs and enables young people to reach their full potential
To plan and prepare activities that meet the young peoples needs and stimulates their learning and integration within the home.
Keep abreast of legislation, guidelines, policies to ensure the Childrens Act, Childrens homes regulations and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
To be aware of all Ofsted guidance and information in regard to the home.
To observe and assess young peoples progress and keep accurate records of their achievements, behaviour and important events in their lives.
To produce and keep up to date a life book for any young person for whom you have key working responsibilities.
To work with local authorities/ placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding
To establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young peoples learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
To be flexible within working practices of the home e.g. To help, where needed, including undertaking domestic tasks within the home, which will include preparation of meals, cleaning, shopping etc.
You may be called at home if a problem arises to give advice over the phone. In an emergency you may be called to come in.
Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
To keep clear and legible records regarding the young people.
To ensure that entries in records are legible, clearly expressed, non-stigmatising and distinguished as far as possible between fact, opinion and third-party information.
To run / chair the young peoples meetings.
To ensure that all staff members are kept up to date with changes to procedures within the organisation
To ensure that communication between staff is promoted and individuals are given the opportunity to express their opinions.
To offer guidance and support to staff while on shift, particularly when dealing with incidents.
To ensure that positive and negative feedback is given constructively to promote a professional approach to work.
To inform the Manager as soon as is reasonably possible in matters of dispute.
To remain on shift throughout its duration, making sure that there enough staff on the following shift to take over.
To consult the Manager concerning any staffing matters.
To make sure that young people and staff are kept safe and secure whilst out among the public.
To be accountable for any decision made in regard to the welfare of the young people and staff members during the shifts that you lead.
Ensure all home procedures are followed correctly, e.g. safeguarding, recording of accidents and the care plans of the young people. Respect the confidentiality of information received at all times.
The preparation and completion of activities to suit the young persons stage of development.
To ensure that mealtimes are a valuable social occasion.
To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of all children and to abide by the Equal Opportunities Policy.
To make contact and liaise with external agencies, when appropriate
To act as an ambassador for the Home and maintain a positive image of its aims and objectives.
To attend and participate in staff meetings and planning and development days.
To complete Rotas staffing levels, ensure adequate cover when off shift.
To update training and continued professional development
To carry out any other duties required.
To cover in any of the other homes, when required. Working Hours:

You will be rostered 5 shifts per week totalling 173 hours per month.
This will include both early, late and weekend shifts as per your agreed rota.
You will also complete one sleep-in shift per week for which you will be paid, in addition to your salary. Person Specification:

To be aged 25 or over
Full and relevant NVQ Diploma Level 3 or above childcare route
MUST be a car driver
To have experience of working in residential childcare and experience of managing staff.
Current First Aid Certificate
Current Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
Knowledge of safe practice and training in physical intervention
Good understanding of the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Up to date Safeguarding training
Knowledge of Childrens Homes regulations
Knowledge of Key worker systems and record keeping
Knowledge of child development
To be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team as well as ability to work independently using own initiative
Knowledge of safeguarding children procedures
Knowledge of health and safety issues in a residential home setting
Knowledge, understanding and commitment to equal opportunities
Ability to communicate effectively
