THE ROLE
This is a new opportunity for a Server Engineer to join a team of dedicated IT professionals to deliver new and exciting IT systems into the Defence environment. The candidate shall have practical experience of installing and configuring Microsoft Server Operating Systems and VMware virtualization products, set to work and Commissioning of Military Communications Systems.
Working under a Senior Engineer or Architect, the Server Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of their own tasks and take responsibility for the task's technical output. The Server Engineer will be at ease working within a small to medium-sized team and be comfortable taking on new tasks outside of their skill set as required by the business: in particular a willingness to work in the wider IT environment.
The Server Engineer will be expected to uphold quality and deliver solutions to budget and time constraints. Solutions must be delivered fully documented so a high standard of written work is expected.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
You will be working across a couple of projects, they will be setting up new servers, supporting current systems, upgrades, patching. This is a typical Server Engineer role, where they will need Windows Server experience and VMWare.
The Server Engineer will need hands on experience, ideally 2+ years working in an infrastructure type role with exposure to Servers. Support and training is available but they need to know their way around MS Servers. Desirable would be exposure to military systems.
THE FIT
For this Server Engineer position you either need SC clearance or you need to be willing to go through the SC clearance process before you start (This will be paid for by QinetiQ however can take around 3 months).
You must have experience of VMWare & Windows Server.
You shouldQinetiq have IT Security knowledge (i.e hardening devices / locking down systems).
