An enchanting Cotswold stone cottage set in an idyllic hamlet and enjoying picturesque views across the valley.
Description
Highfield House is a detached, period Cotswold stone cottage providing charming family accommodation over three floors. The present owners have enhanced the cottage by extending the kitchen which is now a spacious family room which also opens directly into the garden. To either side is the sitting room and a cosy snug, both with log burners set in stone fireplaces. On the first floor there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, all of which take advantage of the picturesque views. The second floor comprises a fourth bedroom with bathroom, a study and a loft space which is accessed by a pull down ladder.
Outside, the property is entered through timber gates with a short drive leading to a gravelled parking area. To the side is the detached garage which is partly divided to provide a workshop, above which is a loft space. The cottage faces west and to the front is a sitting out terrace and a level lawn from which there are lovely views. The garden slopes down to a less formal area of garden which adjoins farmland. The total site extends to approximately half an acre.
Location
Bagpath is a hamlet situated 6 miles west of Tetbury near to the site of a Roman settlement. It is located in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty characterised by its stunning valleys.
Tetbury is a popular and lively traditional Cotswold market town, well known for its 17th and 18th Century architecture. Historically, the town was known for its antique shops but today boutique and specialist shops, together with cafes, restaurants and bistros have come to the fore. As a result there is a bustling feel to the town with well known shops now including the Highgrove shop, Quayles Delicatessen and the award winning Hobbs bakery. For more general shopping there is a Tesco superstore on the edge of the town and, twice a week, there is an open market under The Market House. There are Waitrose supermarkets in nearby Malmesbury and Cirencester. Larger commercial centres include Bath, Bristol and Cheltenham, all of which provide excellent shops and theatres.
Nearby is the world famous Westonbirt Arboretum which covers 600 acres and boasts one of the most varied specimen collections in Europe as well as some 17 miles of trails. Other recreational opportunities include golf at Westonbirt and Minchinhampton, water sports at the Cotswold Water Park, polo at the Beaufort Polo Club, motor racing at the Castle Combe circuit and there is a spa at nearby Calcot Manor. There are many highly regarded local primary and secondary schools in nearby Oaksey, Crudwell, Kemble, Malmesbury and Cirencester as well as a wide choice of well known private schools within easy reach including Beaudesert Park, Cheltenham Ladies, Prior Park, Westonbirt, Rendcomb, Hatherop Castle and Marlborough College.
