Would you like to play a vital part in the Governments commitment to the Net Zero target by joining a team leading the decarbonisation of our Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) estate? If so, we are looking for an Environmental Manager to join our Net Zero Team, based at Abbey Wood and Aztec West in Bristol. You will be supporting us in delivering a greener, more sustainable DE&S infrastructure to ensure we maximise our military capability and support in a changing world.
You will become part of a team working to ensure that DE&S achieves Net Zero by 2040 for its Operations and Infrastructure. We are also aiming to have a Net Zero Ready site by end-2025 and will have planted circa 400k trees by then. Were looking to lay the foundations to generate the offset equivalent to 3 million trees by 2030, through various nature-based interventions. With multiple locations around the country and differing demands on our estate, from our Head Quarters at Abbey Wood, Bristol, through to our munition storage and processing sites, our logistic and support sites to our Test, Trials, Training and Evaluation sites. Each site is different, requiring both common and bespoke solutions to deliver Net Zero, improve sustainability and climate resilience.
We are looking to maximise the potential of our estate through the implementation of nature-based solutions. Working through tree planting schemes, peat restoration through to salt marsh restoration and blue carbon opportunities with our coastal sites and supporting bio-diversity net gain. As well as supporting behavioural and culture approach development to maximise carbon savings and continuous learning. An appreciation of one or more areas of ecology, sequestration, marine environment, net zero schemes, the built environment and or sustainability is a plus, but more importantly is the willingness to learn and apply system and long-term considerations into your solutions, alongside fast paced opportunities as they emerge within the estate; so being agile, innovative with personal energy to support us delivering this challenging portfolio is key.
Were planting and restoring the way to a better world! The unearthing of the challenges is enormous but thrilling. Lucy De Vial, Net Zeros Land Use Project Manager.
Please note, there will be occasional domestic travel to other UK sites involved in this role.
