There are few institutions where you can make a real difference to the 2 million people who work in the UK Financial Services industry, the 40 million consumers of financial products and the stability of our economy as a whole.
From regulating consumer credit to driving action on foreign exchange manipulation or helping strengthen accountability in the banking sector, the FCA is working with the industry to protect consumers, ensure the integrity of the UK financial system and promote fair and effective competition. Their remit has expanded significantly since their creation in 2013, with the number of firms they regulate growing from 23,000 to over 60,000.
The Role
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in a major transformation within an organisation that sits at the heart of the UK financial services industry. This is a critical and highly visible role with the ability to have impact not only within the FCA, but across the entire sector.
A member of the ExCo, the new CDIIO will play a central role in the FCA's transformation into a regulator fit for the future. Engaged in a broad range of issues, you will have the opportunity to shape and lead a department of talented and committed people working collaboratively on significant projects and programmes of work.
The CDIIO will significantly enhance the FCA's ability to analyse and utilise the large volumes of data which it collects on the firms it regulates. The ExCo wishes to continue to develop sophisticated analytics to make better use of this data and to allow enhanced regulation across the largest to the smallest of the regulated entities.
The Individual
The CDIIO will have a broad and deep understanding of the use of data and analytics, combined with the collaborative leadership skills required to effectively oversee organisational strategy and to influence senior leaders. They will bring a track record of leveraging data, analytics and insights to drive enterprise-wide efficiency and improvement.
Their skills should include:
Exceptional relationship management and communication; with the credibility and breadth of vision to operate at all levels of the FCA and the ability to earn the full trust and confidence of colleagues.
The ability to understand and synthesise a wide range of stakeholder views; constantly listening whilst remaining focused on the overall goal.
Highly strategic thinking; capable of both developing and communicating an exciting vision of the future and adapting their communication approach for different audiences.
A strong quality ethic; capable of raising standards, effectively challenging, with a view to finding common sense solutions to problems and delivering high quality outcomes.
Strong leadership behaviours in line with the FCA values and capabilities; embedding the Mission and delivering organisational priorities.
