The role:
As Performance Pathway Manager you would lead and work as part of a team to help drive our strategy for building champions and to support in other strategic areas: developing our people and working together.
Summary of responsibilities:
Building Champions
Work with the Board's performance sub-committee to review and deliver all aspects of the Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting performance and development pathways.
Provide leadership at training and preparation camps and at international events, acting as head coach and/or team manager as required.
Develop the athlete development pathway, where athletes and coaches thrive.
Work with Sport Wales and other organisations to plan projects which support athletes, coaches and parents.Developing our People
Build and lead a coaching workforce.
Provide guidance to coaches for planning and reviewing individualised training programmes for funded athletes.
Mentor coaches supporting the Weightlifting Wales pathway to ensure their continued development.Working Together
Support partnership-building with key stakeholders, developing academy programmes and talent-transfer pathways to and from Weightlifting Wales.
Manage relationships with colleagues at Disability Sport Wales, Commonwealth Games Wales, Sport Wales, UK Anti-Doping and British Weightlifting.
Personal specification:
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in coaching at elite and development levels and integrating sport science, sport medicine and training programmes. They will have experience of generating, implementing and monitoring plans and budgets.
A sound knowledge of international level competition circuits, training methodologies, principles behind the long-term development of athletes and current safeguarding legislation and best practice are essential requirements.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to inspire, organize and motivate others. They will build and maintain relationships whilst having the self-organization skills to manage many projects simultaneously and deliver under pressure.
They must have a valid driving license, enhanced DBS, a valid safeguarding certification and obtain a British Weightlifting coach license within 6 months of starting in post.
Being goal oriented, a good team player, having a 'can do' attitude and demonstrating integrity and high ethical standards are essential attributes.
Being a Welsh language speaker and experience of coaching elite and development level weightlifters would both be desirable, but are not essential.You can view the full job description and person specification on the Weightlifting Wales website
