A classic body with modern performance, this is no ordinary 1970 Mini Clubman.

Described by Mini Magazine as "as much art as it is machine", calling this Mini a mere restoration would be untrue. It has undergone a full transformation, even being fitted with a Vauxhall Twin Cam engine. The body has been completely rid of any rust and blemishes, all imperfections removed, and repainted in Surf Blue by Coventry Classic Minis.

The Surf Blue bodywork is complimented by an Old English White roof and re-chromed bumpers and trims. The exterior boasts P700 Halogen headlights, an Aston Martin fuel cap, Downton style door mirrors, and crackle-black finishes. However, the immaculate body of the car is only the beginning.

On the interior, retrimmed and re-foamed Austin Healey bucket seats are paired with a body coloured roll cage and harnesses, and the track-ready feel is only increased by the CAE H-shifter. The gearbox is from a diesel Vauxhall, which makes it perfectly suited to handle the increased torque load. The Smiths GPS digital Speedo and Tachometer add a touch of modernity to the car, and the OBP Brake Bias adjuster hints at the motorsport capabilities.

Under the bonnet is arguably the most fascinating part of this Mini. Powered by a fully rebuilt Vauxhall X16XE 16v 1.6L twin cam engine with custom manifolds, this has been surprisingly well hidden with clever period camouflage, as the ultra-thin Jenvey throttle bodies are disguised to look like DCOE Carburettors. More hints towards this Mini's true purpose can be found in the race-spec fuel regulator, pump, and filter, as well as the front mounted radiator. A black, centre exit RC40 exhaust system finishes it off nicely.

Handling of this little classic Mini is also massively improved by the owner not letting himself be restrained by using original only parts, and allowing for a bit of creativity. Fully adjustable suspension all round, a Cooper S front disc setup with Minifin rear drums, braided brake hoses throughout, and 10" black Rose Petal wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan 032R tyres makes for an extremely capable track-day car.

The mastermind and owner of this resto-mod, Richard Cotterill, wanted this car to be reminiscent of the "gentlemen racers" of the 1960's and 70's.

This truly is a car that needs to be seen to be appreciated.
