Selby is a popular town within easy reach of both Leeds and York. You'll be close to the motorway network, with the M62 to the south and the A1(M) and M1 to the west. Wakefield, Pontefract, Scunthorpe and Hull are all within commuting distance.
A new home here puts you within walking distance of the town centre where there are plenty of shops and facilities including a weekly market and a train station. The ancient abbey is the focal point for the town and the natural landmark to enjoy is the River Ouse which comes hand in hand with some lovely riverside walks.
Leisure
Selby is a great place for leisure activities as it's home to a range of sporting clubs, including football, rugby, golf, tennis and ten-pin bowling. It also has its own leisure centre. The River Ouse and the Selby Canal run through the town, providing some peaceful waterside walks. The local Barlow Common nature reserve is a great place to spot wildlife, and Selby Park, with its five-acres of beautifully tended gardens and children's play area, is a popular place for a picnic.
For a bit of culture, Selby's Globe Community Cinema hosts all the latest film releases and Selby Town Hall Arts Centre holds music, dance and drama events. The jewel in Selby's crown has to be its majestic Abbey – it's 900 years old and is one of England's finest examples. It's well worth a visit.
Shopping
Staynor Hall is close to a large retail park, as well as being within walking distance of Selby town centre with its selection of supermarkets, high street stores and independent shops. The town is also well-known for its popular weekly market, which offers some delicious local produce amongst the range of stalls. For further shopping choices, the historic city of York is approximately 16 miles away, and is home to some large department stores, as many independent shops and boutiques. If you fancy a bargain, the York Designer Outlet has more than 120 shops to choose from.
